Employer Toolkit on Benefits Literacy and Consumerism

This employer toolkit was developed by MBGH to help address many of the issues identified in the MBGH Value-Based Benefit Design Research Series. This series examined the understanding of both employers and employees readiness to adopt value-based benefits as well as identified the triggers and barriers to employee engagement in worksite activities and physician views of employer-sponsored health programs.

Purpose of the Toolkit

The toolkit provides employers with ideas, tools and resources to:
    • Effectively communicate health care benefits and related health and wellness programs
    • Maximize the value of new and existing benefits and program offerings
    • Address the issue of benefits literacy (e.g. confusion around SPD's) by simplifying benefits communications
    • Identify the key elements that affect a communication strategy
    • Support employees and families in navigating the health care system and becoming smart consumers
    • Identify successful strategies from real employer case studies and communication samples
