Migraines - Workplace Strategies

Employer migraine strategies can take a variety of different forms, depending on the specific needs of the employee population and the desired outcomes. To improve migraine awareness and minimize related issues and challenges, some employers develop a stand-alone program while others integrate related information into existing health improvement initiatives.

Regardless of which direction is chosen, the objectives will likely be the same. At the very least, workplace education about migraine gets the conversation started. Raising awareness of migraine across the employee population can help to reduce the stigma that often surrounds the condition and creates an environment where co-workers support those with migraine, especially when an attack happens. It can also mean helping someone who is suffering from migraine but is undiagnosed find appropriate care. For those already suffering, information and tools to improve self-care can bring about more effective migraine management, which can help to reduce headache frequency, decrease migraine-related disability and improve quality of life.
