CHICAGO – March 3, 2020 – The Midwest Business Group on Health (MBGH) was honored with the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute (PBMI) Excellence Award in the Quality Improvement Category. The award recognizes MBGH for its efforts to provide employers with education, awareness and turn-key resources to help manage the high cost of hemophilia and improve the lives of covered members who are impacted by this rare but serious disease.
“MBGH appreciates the recognition from PBMI for our efforts on behalf of our employer members,” said Cheryl Larson, MBGH president and CEO. “This award demonstrates our commitment to helping employers use plan designs that remove barriers and obstacles to ensure optimal treatment will lead to better patient outcomes, while avoiding the unnecessary waste of clotting factor drugs which can increase employer costs.”
Presented at PBMI’s 25th Annual National Conference in Orlando, the awards acknowledge organizations for their exceptional contributions across the pharmacy management continuum in the areas of care management strategies, cost containment, opioid management strategies and quality improvement.
“Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders present many challenges for patients and their family members, as well as for plan sponsors,” said Sharon Frazee, PhD, senior vice president of Research and Data Innovation at PBMI. “We’re pleased to present MBGH with an Excellence Award for their demonstrated commitment to educating, raising awareness and providing strategies to help plan sponsors manage their benefit plans. By improving awareness of best-in-class treatment options, clinically appropriate cost management, and access to information and resources, plan sponsors can effectively design their drug benefit plans to better serve their members’ needs.”
