Event Description

Employer Forum on Pharmacy Benefits, Specialty Drugs & CGTs: Reshaping Pharmacy Benefits – Employer Strategies for PBM Transparency & High-Cost Therapies

Employers and policymakers are demanding greater transparency in PBM contracts, re-evaluating traditional PBM relationships, and exploring alternative models that provide greater insight into pricing, rebate flows, and the pharmacy supply chain. Full access to claims data is also a growing requirement, enabling employers to better manage drug spending and negotiate previously opaque contracts.

At the same time, high-cost specialty and cell and gene therapies are rapidly transforming modern medicine, offering the potential for better outcomes, remission, or even cures, for conditions once thought untreatable. Employers face increasing pressure to design benefit programs that balance access, affordability, and accountability for these breakthrough treatments.

Strategies that prioritize transparency, accountability, data access, and value-based purchasing will be better positioned to manage escalating drug costs, establish genuine oversight, and ensure access to life-changing therapies.

Join MBGH, leading employers and industry experts to explore:

  • Adopting alternative and transparent PBM models with 100% rebate pass-through, no spread pricing, and clear fee structures, including specialty pharmacy carve-outs and direct contracting.
  • Leveraging “disruptor” models like cost-plus pharmacy networks, direct-to-employer purchasing, and 340B partnerships to reduce costs and improve clarity.
  • Managing high-cost, high-value therapies such as specialty drugs and cell and gene therapies through value-based purchasing tied to clinical outcomes.
  • Developing financial and benefit strategies for CGTs, considering coverage, fiduciary responsibilities, and legal implications.
  • Gaining practical tools and real-world examples to guide informed decision-making in the evolving pharmacy benefits landscape.

This program is available both in-person and virtually.
