The MBGH Board of Directors has cited Biologics/Specialty Pharmacy as the coalition's #1 priority. 

MBGH's work in examining the value-based purchasing activities of employers has identified biologic/specialty drugs as a major challenge and focus for employers. 

In 2010, MBGH began an employer-driven Biologics/Specialty Pharmacy Initiative which began with a 2011 national survey showing that 78% of employers have "little to moderate understanding" of specialty pharmacy. 

The survey also revealed other important knowledge gaps and a lack of awareness on costs, benefit plan design and the unique challenges inherent with biologic medications.
